Cornelia Öberg (b. 1993) is a textile-based visual artist who lives and works in Gothenburg, Sweden. Working with traditional hand-tufting and embroidery, she creates mohair paintings in which material and image become inseparable. The long, luminous fibres are brushed and manipulated by hand, activating the material and creating movement across its soft, mist-like surface. Shapes and figures emerge and dissolve within the shifting fibres, moving between presence and dissolution.
Öberg grew up in the west of Sweden. Often travelled between the rocky coastlines of Bohuslän and the rivers and forests of the inland. The shifting landscapes and atmospheres profoundly shaped her imaginative visual world. A natural landscape of metaphors, mirroring human states and experiences, exploring themes of vulnerability, violence, fear and love. Öberg holds a Master of Fine Arts in Craft from HDK-Valand. She has exhibited her work at galleries such as Konstnärshuset, Konstepidemin, Galleri Axel, and Galleri Thomassen. Her work is represented in both private and public collections.
